Connection with a horse is a level beyond most any other animal I’ve known. Both their own presence and a mirror of our own deepen interactions with these animals — we are either willing to bring our full self, or they won’t meet us. It doesn’t need to be pretty or put together … just true.

To look into the eyes of an animal, and have them look into yours, shifts something inside of you. If you’ve felt it, you know it.

This is an 11x14” limited-edition fine-art print of the original work. Archival inks on Smooth Matte paper produce velvety rich blacks and a wide range of tones to capture detail. Print is mounted to 1/8” Masonite (similar in weight and feel to the original), with a 1” white border on all sides of the original-size 9x12” image, protecting the print from damage and allowing for easy framing.

This style of hand-illustrated engraving has been around since the 1800s. A panel of Masonite (like compressed wood, very durable) is covered with white clay and then a thin layer of black ink on top. I use a small Xacto blade or mini fiberglass brush to carve into the black ink, exposing variable degrees of the white clay beneath.

A limited-run of 25, once these are sold, no more will be produced. Each is hand-numbered, labeled and signed by Jennifer.
